Choosing the right hob for your kitchen is one of the most important decisions you can make while furnishing or remodelling your home. However, with over 10 models to choose form, we understand that selecting the right one for you can be a confusing task. Hence, here are three useful tips you can use to find your perfect hob.

1. Decide what type of hob you prefer.

Gas Hobs: Most people will have used or at least seen a gas hob. However, Newmatic gas hobs are fitted with additional features which make them more stylish, durable and energy-efficient than other competitors in the market, such as:

  • Flame Failure Device (FFD). Most Newmatic gas hobs are fitted with FFDs which automatically cut the gas and prevent gas leaks should the flame be accidentally extinguished, whether by strong winds or food spillage.
  • Zinc/Titanium Knobs. All Newmatic gas hobs are fitted with durable, champagne-coloured, melt-proof zinc alloy knobs which are accompanied with spacers to prevent liquid seepage. In the PRO-series, these components are made of titanium, which is even more durable and exclusive.
  • Heavy-duty Trivets. All Newmatic gas hobs come with heavy-duty, cast-iron trivets which are heavier and more durable than wire-made counterparts.
  • Well-placed Burners. The larger 60cm and 90cm Newmatic hobs are typically equipped with four types of burners: a powerful 3/5.2kw triple-ring burner which rapidly and evenly heats even the largest of cooking vessels, and smaller well-placed rapid, semi-rapid and auxiliary burners, which allow you to more efficiently cook with smaller vessels, or cook with many vessels simultaneously.

Radiant/Vitro Ceramic Hobs: Newmatic radiant hobs are equipped with gas-powered burners and electric-powered radiant or vitro-ceramic burners. In addition to the aforementioned features our gas hobs have, Newmatic radiant hobs also have the following useful functions:

  • Greater versatility. With gas and electric-powered burners, Newmatic’s radiant hobs allow you to continue cooking meals uninterrupted, even if the gas or power runs out.
  • Durable Chassis. Newmatic radiant hobs (except the vitro ceramic burner component) are encased in a tempered glass chassis which is not only durable and easy to clean, but also backed by our unconditional lifetime factory warranty which is unmatched in the industry.

Induction Hobs: Unlike their gas or radiant counterparts, Newmatic induction hobs are completely electric-powered and cook food by generating electromagnetic waves, which are directly transferred to ferrous (i.e. containing iron) cookware, thereby minimising heat loss.

  • Energy efficiency. Cutting-edge induction technology can also cut your energy bills substantially, as induction hobs are up to three times more energy-efficient than their gas counterparts.
  • Easy-to-clean chassis. Newmatic induction hobs have an easy-to-maintain ceramic glass chassis which comes with a 1-year warranty.
  • Exclusive features. Being electrically powered also allows induction hobs to have additional functions which gas hobs cannot, such as a timer, child lock and hot surface indicator function, which reduces your energy bills and keeps your home and family safe from harm.
  • Need additional protection? However, being electrically powered also means that induction hobs are vulnerable to sudden voltage spikes and dips. To protect your investment from volt surges, we recommend pairing this product and any other electric-powered appliance you have with our voltage regulator.

2. Decide which size of hob you need.

Newmatic hobs come in three sizes, each catering to different needs, lifestyles and kitchen sizes.

  • 30cm Hobs: Small, affordable products which typically feature two burners and are ideal for small kitchenettes or those who cook infrequent, small meals. We recommend the PM320SX for gas hobs and PM302I for induction hobs.
  • 60cm Hobs: A mid-range choice best-suited for small families or those who cook average sized meals regularly. These products usually feature at least four burners, including the aforementioned powerful triple-ring burner. Gas options include PM640STX-N, PM640STGB, radiant options include PM631VSTGB and induction options include PM604I and its slightly larger 70cm counterpart PM704I.
  • 90cm Hobs. The most expensive, but also feature-rich option ideal for large kitchen, families or those who frequently cook substantial meals. Comes with at least five burners, including the aforementioned triple-ring burner. Gas options include P950STX-1-H, PQ950STX, and PM950STX, and radiant options include PM941VSTGB.

3. Decide what top plate material you prefer.

If you would like to purchase a gas hob, the last thing you need to decide is what your hob should look like. Newmatic gas hobs have two chassis material types:

  • Stainless steel. Newmatic only uses high-quality, food-grade 304 stainless steel on its stainless steel glass hobs. This is not only a durable and classic-looking option, but is also more budget-friendly than its tempered glass counterparts. Those interested in stainless steel hobs should look at PM320SX, PM640STX-N, P950STX-1-H, and PM950STX.
  • Tempered glass. Though our tempered glass hobs are a pricier option, they are usually easier to clean, retain their original appearance for longer and are finished in a classy black colour. Backed by our unconditional lifetime factory warranty, so you can rest easy. Models include PM640STGB-N, and PM950STGB.

No modern kitchen is complete without a built-in hob. Whether it’s whipping up quick meals or preparing feasts, Newmatic has your covered. We hope that this guide has been useful. If you wish to return to view our hobs again, click here
